About YSI

About Youth Social Innovation (YSI)

The YSI Conference is co-created by young people from different colleges, who use democratic processes to design informal learning spaces, where they share innovative models to co-create wellbeing for each other to flourish on campus. It’s a place to listen and get inspired by each other’s ideas and expand their imagination to possibilities which are unknown.

 YSI Conference provides students with

  • A project – an Idea Challenge to tackle the issues bothering the learning community on campus.
  •  A platform – YSI Conference to express their innovative IDEA’s, while imbibing the cultural values of Indic Knowledge Systems of great change makers of India .

YSI facilitates student’s journey of building individual and collective agency to bring social change on campus, while imbibing values of great change makers of India from Indian Knowledge systems.

This is a yearly conference, organized & co-created by all students of participating colleges, which is convened by Srushti Degree College. Since 2018, 5 editions of YSI have been conducted

The vision of YSI: Co-create beautiful Possibilities

The Purpose: To nurture students to co-create wellbeing to flourish on campus

How YSI Works: From Idea to Impact

YSI follows a unique, student-led process grounded in action, reflection, and co-creation:

  1. Idea Challenge
Students identify real issues affecting their campus — from broken trust to digital disconnection — and design small, doable experiments inspired by thinkers like Gandhi and Tagore.

  2. Prototype & Test
Over four weeks, they test their ideas on campus — building trust through a “Treasure Box,” reviving relationships via a “Gratitude Tree,” or transforming neglected spaces into community sanctuaries.

  3. Reflect & Learn
Guided by faculty facilitators, students write reflective practice papers — turning action into insight, and experience into wisdom.

  4. Present & Co-create
At the annual conference, every participant presents their model. There are no spectators — only fellow innovators sharing, listening, and expanding each other’s imagination.

  5. Scale & Sustain
The best models become permanent campus initiatives. Alumni go on to solve community problems beyond college — proving that once ignited, the spirit of social innovation doesn’t stop.

Who We Are: A Learning Community

YSI brings together a diverse community united by a common purpose:

  • Students who dare to ask difficult questions and lead change
  • Faculty who step out of traditional roles to become co-learners and guides
  • IKS Experts who connect modern challenges with timeless wisdom
  • Institutions committed to nurturing student agency and wellbeing
  • Partners like Bangalore North University, NSS, ICSSR, Gandhi Bhavana, and Sethi Foundation who believe in this vision

Together, we form a learning community where hierarchy dissolves, voices are heard, and solutions emerge organically — not imposed from above, but co-created from within.
